ABOUT

FGI – The Fashion Group International was formed in 1930 by a group of the most powerful women in America including Elizabeth Arden and Eleanor Roosevelt.  Fashion was their passion and their profession. They were committed to developing an organisation that offered professionals working in fashion and related industries a networking hub that fostered the professional development of individuals who chose fashion as a career.  In addition they recognised that life in the Fashion Industry offered unique challenges for businesswomen and they worked also to create a safe and supportive environment that promoted the sharing of information and opportunities to make friends and develop association with like minded industry professionals.Fashion Group International now has presence in over 35 countries and continue to provide exciting professional and personal opportunities for Career Fashionistas worldwide.

FGI was the first industry organisation I joined when I started Australian Fashion Partners (AFP) in Sydney.
Now almost 10 years later, with AFP now a national company – I can still say with great pride that many of my best clients, industry partners, government contacts and staff have come about as a direct result of my Membership of FGI.

FGI MEMBER

At FGI functions the room is full of clever, well connected, committed people. Have a chat to some of them and you may just find a new supplier, a business contact, a mentor, a new friend.
Through membership I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some of our fellow members from the United States. We were able to establish new accounts in the US after meeting members who referred us to boutiques they knew in their home towns. A chat can lead to business opportunities. Someone knows someone else who may just be the perfect partner for your business.

Since my first show at New York Fashion week in February 2007 the FGI (Australian and New York chapters) have shown their support in attending all my New York Runway shows. As a brand, entering a new market, it is encouraging to have the network and support of such a well established and respected body. The role of the FGI in supporting and nurturing talent both in Australia and on a global level is a credit to them. We at Aurelio Costarella are very proud of our ongoing association with the FGI.

FGI Sydney provides an excellent mechanism for collaboration among its members, with a range of opportunities for networking, mentoring, skills development and business matching. One of FGI Sydney’s unique strengths is its capacity to draw in players from all segments of the fashion industry value chain, including education and training institutions, fashion students, emerging and established designers, manufacturers, suppliers, large and small retailers, service providers and government agencies.
